Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date 1502 Description

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date ref. 1502 is a vintage model produced primarily in the 1960s and early 1970s, featuring a classic two-tone construction of stainless steel and 14k or 18k yellow gold. The reference stands out due to its fluted gold bezel, which enhances its formal aesthetic and differentiates it from smooth or engine-turned bezel variants in the 1500-series lineup. It uses a 34mm Oyster case with an acrylic crystal fitted with a Cyclops date magnifier, along with a screw-down crown and caseback providing Rolex’s standard water resistance. Inside is the Rolex Caliber 1570, a chronometer-certified automatic movement equipped with hacking seconds and a 48-hour power reserve. Dials were typically offered in champagne, silver, or black with gold baton hour markers and matching hands, reinforcing its elegant profile. With dimensions of 41mm lug-to-lug and a 19mm lug width, the 1502 is traditionally sized for vintage Rolex dress watches. Though less commonly discussed than some other references, the 1502 is appreciated for combining luxurious gold elements with the reliable engineering of the Oyster case and 1570 movement.
