Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date 1506 Description

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date ref. 1506 is a vintage reference that was produced in the late 1950s through the early 1960s, typically in stainless steel or 14k yellow gold. It features a 34mm Oyster case with a smooth bezel and an acrylic crystal equipped with the Cyclops date magnifier. The case is sealed with Rolex’s screw-down crown and caseback, providing the foundational waterproof capabilities of the Oyster line. The movement inside is the Rolex Caliber 1560, an automatic, chronometer-rated movement offering hacking seconds and a power reserve of around 42–48 hours. Dials on the ref. 1506 were offered in understated tones such as silver and champagne, generally with applied baton indices and simple stick or dauphine hands, reflecting the restrained mid-century design ethos. The lug-to-lug length measures approximately 41mm and the lug width is 19mm, maintaining a proportional and wearable profile. Although lesser known compared to references like the 1500 or 1501, the 1506 remains an appealing and uncommon vintage choice for collectors seeking an early Date model with classic Rolex attributes and clean lines.
