Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date 6530 Description
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date ref. 6530 is an uncommon and early model from the mid-1950s, produced during a pivotal time when Rolex was refining its calendar-equipped Oyster cases. Crafted in stainless steel or gold configurations, the 6530 features a 34mm Oyster case with either a smooth or engine-turned bezel and a domed acrylic crystal with the signature Cyclops lens. It was one of the transitional models incorporating Rolex’s screw-down crown and caseback, affirming its water-resistant credentials. The watch houses the Rolex Caliber 1030, one of the brand’s first bi-directional self-winding movements, providing a 42-hour power reserve and setting the groundwork for future mechanical innovation. Dial options were traditional for the era, usually in silver or champagne with applied hour markers and dauphine or alpha hands, complemented by early lume materials. The lug-to-lug length is approximately 41mm and the lug width is 19mm, offering balanced proportions for a classic dress watch profile. Ref. 6530 is considered a collectible for vintage enthusiasts due to its low production volume and its position within the developmental lineage of Rolex’s early date models.
