Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date 1625 Description

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date ref. 1625, commonly known as the ‘Turn-O-Graph,’ is a distinctive and historically significant model introduced in the late 1950s. It features a 36mm Oyster case constructed in stainless steel or Rolesor (steel and gold), paired with a rotating bezel that allows for time tracking—an early precursor to Rolex’s tool-watch ethos. This rotating bezel was engraved with minute markings, enabling short timing intervals, which made the Turn-O-Graph a functional tool watch as well as an elegant timepiece. The watch is fitted with an acrylic crystal, Cyclops magnifier, screw-down crown, and screw-back case, delivering Rolex’s signature water-resistant properties. Powering the 1625 is the Rolex Caliber 1565 or 1575, both automatic COSC-certified movements known for their reliability and robustness, with an approximate power reserve of 44–48 hours. Dial variants include silver, black, champagne, and white, most commonly with stick or baton markers and luminous hands, and some versions bear the ‘Thunderbird’ nickname when issued to the U.S. Air Force’s Thunderbird squadron. It has a lug-to-lug measurement of 44mm and a lug width of 20mm, giving it a versatile presence on the wrist. The ref. 1625 occupies a unique place in Rolex history, sitting between the Datejust and early sports watches, and continues to draw attention for its blend of functionality, style, and heritage.
