Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6548 Description
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 6548 is a ladies’ automatic watch introduced in the mid-1950s, serving as one of the earliest female-oriented references in Rolex’s expanding Oyster Perpetual lineup. Crafted with a stainless steel or 18k gold case, it measured approximately 24mm in diameter, a size that suited the era’s tastes while preserving Rolex’s technical advancements in a smaller form. The watch was powered by the Rolex Caliber 1130, a reliable automatic movement adapted for smaller cases and offering a power reserve of about 42 hours. Dials were elegantly understated, typically in silver or champagne finishes with applied baton markers and dauphine hands beneath a domed acrylic crystal. A screw-down Oyster crown and caseback provided water resistance, maintaining the technical robustness associated with the Oyster name. The lug-to-lug length was approximately 32mm, and the lug width was 13mm, reinforcing its delicate profile while preserving wearability. Often sold on Jubilee bracelets or fine leather straps, the 6548 brought Rolex’s hallmark functionality and craftsmanship to the women’s segment. Today, it stands as a collectible example of mid-century ladies’ watch design and mechanical watchmaking, admired for its vintage charm and solid movement.
