Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6549 Description
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 6549 is a rare and elegant ladies’ wristwatch introduced in the mid-1950s, embodying Rolex’s technical expertise in a compact, feminine form. This reference typically features an 18k gold case measuring 24mm in diameter, paired with either fluted or smooth bezels and delicate lugs. It is powered by the Rolex Caliber 1130, a self-winding movement tailored for smaller cases, offering reliable performance and a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The dials were designed with refinement in mind—silver, champagne, or pearl tones were paired with applied hour markers and dauphine hands beneath a domed acrylic crystal. True to the Oyster name, the case includes a screw-down crown and caseback for water resistance. The lug-to-lug measurement is approximately 32mm with a lug width of 13mm, making the watch compact yet proportional for vintage women’s wristwear. It was frequently offered on fine leather straps or matching gold bracelets, and although produced in smaller numbers, the 6549 represents a transitional point for Rolex’s push into luxurious, durable women’s automatics. Today, it stands out as a collectible piece among early Oyster Perpetual ladies’ watches, appreciated for its elegance and engineering.
