Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6590 Description

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 6590 is a vintage ladies’ automatic watch produced during the late 1950s and early 1960s. This reference features a 26mm stainless steel case and was often fitted with either a smooth or engine-turned bezel, reflecting the classic Rolex design ethos of functional elegance. Inside, the watch is powered by the Rolex Caliber 1130, an automatic movement that was widely used in Rolex’s smaller timepieces at the time, delivering a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. Dial configurations were clean and simple, with silver or white backgrounds, applied baton hour markers, and pencil-style hands, protected under an acrylic crystal. Water resistance was ensured by the screw-down Oyster crown and caseback, aligning with the rugged standards expected from the brand’s mid-century tool watches. It has a lug-to-lug measurement of approximately 33mm and a lug width of 13mm, making it a compact and comfortable option for everyday wear. Frequently delivered on Oyster or Jubilee bracelets, the 6590 represents an early example of Rolex’s move toward offering automatic movements in women’s watches, making it a compelling piece for collectors who appreciate innovation in form and function.
