The Name

OTTUHR

Originally we were called UHR, a nod to the German word for "clock." I grew up surrounded by German influences as my mother was born there and half my family spoke only German. My grandfather was a passionate watch collector, and watches became a way for us to connect, even though my mother had to translate much of our conversations. I chose the name UHR because of that connection, but I wasn’t the only one with that idea. After running into branding issues and realizing how many others were using the same name, I knew I needed to go a different route. One night, while stressing over how I would move forward, I started looking through some of my old logo designs and realized that one of them resembled an otter. After that, I couldn’t help but go with Ottuhr.
