OTTUHR 2-Year Limited Warranty Policy

Applicable only to pre-owned and vintage watches sold by OTTUHR.

1. WARRANTY OVERVIEW

OTTUHR (“we,” “us,” or “our”) stands behind the quality and authenticity of every vintage and pre-owned mechanical timepiece we sell. This Two-Year Limited Mechanical Warranty (“Warranty”) represents our commitment to ensuring your horological investment performs as intended. We understand that acquiring a vintage or pre-owned watch is both a personal and financial decision, and this Warranty is designed to provide you with confidence and peace of mind.

This Warranty applies exclusively to watches sold by OTTUHR and is subject to the terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions set forth herein. By purchasing a timepiece from OTTUHR, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by all terms of this Warranty.

2. WARRANTY PERIOD

2.1 Duration

This Warranty remains in effect for a period of twenty-four (24) months from the original date of purchase, as documented on your OTTUHR invoice or receipt. The Warranty period begins on the date of delivery to the original purchaser and expires at 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on the date that is exactly two years thereafter.

2.2 Proof of Purchase

To make a Warranty claim, you must provide valid proof of purchase from OTTUHR. Acceptable documentation includes: the original OTTUHR invoice, email order confirmation, or shipping confirmation containing the purchase date, item description, serial number (where applicable), and transaction amount. We maintain records of all transactions; however, customers are encouraged to retain their own documentation.

3. COVERED COMPONENTS AND DEFECTS

3.1 Mechanical Movement Coverage

This Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship relating to the mechanical movement of your timepiece that manifest under normal use conditions. Specifically, the following components and functions are covered:

  • Mainspring failures not caused by overwinding, shock, or magnetization
  • Balance wheel and hairspring assembly defects affecting timekeeping accuracy
  • Gear train malfunctions including defective wheels, pinions, and pivots
  • Escapement component failures (escape wheel, pallet fork, jewels)
  • Automatic winding mechanism defects (rotor, reverser wheels, click springs)
  • Date mechanism failures (date wheel, jumper spring, date driving wheel)
  • Day/date complication malfunctions where applicable
  • Chronograph function failures on chronograph-equipped timepieces
  • Alarm mechanism defects on alarm-equipped timepieces
  • GMT/dual time zone function failures where applicable
  • Moon phase indication malfunctions where applicable
  • Power reserve indication failures where applicable

3.2 Timekeeping Accuracy Standards

Given the vintage and pre-owned nature of our timepieces, we recognize that accuracy expectations must be reasonable for the age and type of movement. This Warranty covers timekeeping issues when the watch deviates significantly from expected performance as follows:

For movements manufactured after 1970: Accuracy should fall within +/- 30 seconds per day when properly worn and wound.

For movements manufactured between 1950 and 1970: Accuracy should fall within +/- 45 seconds per day when properly worn and wound.

For movements manufactured before 1950: Accuracy should fall within +/- 60 seconds per day when properly worn and wound.

Deviations beyond these parameters that result from internal mechanical defects rather than external factors are covered under this Warranty.

3.3 Winding and Setting Mechanism

The crown, stem, and keyless works (setting mechanism) are covered against defects in materials and workmanship. This includes coverage for premature wear or failure of the clutch wheel, setting lever, yoke, and associated components when such failure is not attributable to misuse, forced operation, or external damage.

4. EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS

4.1 Water Damage

IMPORTANT: Water damage is expressly excluded from this Warranty regardless of any water resistance rating that may be engraved on the case or indicated in original manufacturer specifications. Due to the age of vintage timepieces and the degradation of gaskets, seals, and crystal fittings over time, OTTUHR cannot guarantee water resistance on any pre-owned watch.

The following conditions void any water-related claims:

  • Exposure to water, moisture, humidity, steam, or condensation
  • Swimming, bathing, showering, or washing while wearing the timepiece
  • Operating the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or submerged
  • Perspiration damage from extended wear in high-humidity conditions
  • Any moisture intrusion regardless of the indicated water resistance rating

We strongly recommend treating all vintage and pre-owned timepieces as non-water-resistant and removing the watch before any water exposure. If water resistance is critical to your needs, we recommend having the watch pressure tested by a qualified watchmaker at your expense prior to any water exposure.

4.2 Physical Damage and Misuse

This Warranty does not cover damage resulting from accidents, abuse, misuse, negligence, or improper handling. The following are specifically excluded:

  • Impact damage from drops, shocks, or collisions
  • Damage from extreme temperatures (below -10°C/14°F or above 60°C/140°F)
  • Magnetic field exposure causing magnetization of movement components
  • Chemical exposure including perfumes, solvents, cleaning agents, and lotions
  • Damage from improper winding (overwinding of manual movements)
  • Forced operation of crown, pushers, or rotating bezels
  • Damage caused by opening the case back without proper tools or expertise
  • Any damage occurring during activities involving excessive vibration or impact

4.3 Cosmetic Components

This Warranty covers the mechanical movement only and does not extend to cosmetic or aesthetic components. The following are expressly excluded:

  • Watch case (including scratches, dents, wear marks, and finish deterioration)
  • Case back and case back gaskets
  • Crystal (mineral, acrylic, or sapphire) including scratches, chips, or breakage
  • Dial condition (including fading, aging, spotting, or lume deterioration)
  • Hands (including lume condition, finish wear, or oxidation)
  • Bezel and bezel insert condition
  • Bracelet, strap, clasp, and deployment buckle
  • Crown and pushers (external wear and finish)
  • Luminous material deterioration or discoloration
  • Any plating wear, fading, or deterioration on gold-plated or chrome-plated components

4.4 Unauthorized Service and Modifications

This Warranty is void if the timepiece has been serviced, repaired, or modified by anyone other than OTTUHR or an OTTUHR-authorized service provider. Specifically, the Warranty is voided by:

  • Any service, repair, or adjustment performed by unauthorized parties
  • Replacement of movement parts with non-original or incompatible components
  • Installation of aftermarket dials, hands, crystals, or other components
  • Modification or alteration of movement components
  • Evidence of tampering with the movement or case
  • Improper lubrication or cleaning of movement components

4.5 Normal Wear and Consumable Items

This Warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or the natural aging of components. The following are considered normal wear items and are excluded:

  • Battery replacement for any quartz-regulated components
  • Crown gasket replacement
  • Case back gasket replacement
  • Crystal gasket replacement
  • Strap and bracelet wear
  • Buckle and clasp wear
  • Natural degradation of lubricants over time (beyond the warranty period)

5. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR VINTAGE TIMEPIECES

5.1 Parts Availability Acknowledgment

Customers purchasing vintage timepieces acknowledge that original manufacturer parts may be discontinued, unavailable, or extremely difficult to source. In fulfilling Warranty obligations, OTTUHR reserves the right to:

  • Use period-correct replacement parts from the same era and manufacturer
  • Use high-quality compatible replacement parts from reputable suppliers
  • Use new-old-stock (NOS) components where available
  • Repair existing components where replacement is not feasible
  • Offer a prorated refund if repair is deemed impossible due to parts unavailability

5.2 Movement Interchange Notice

In cases where a movement cannot be repaired due to damage or parts unavailability, OTTUHR reserves the right to replace the movement with an equivalent caliber of the same or superior quality, provided such replacement maintains the horological integrity and value of the timepiece. Any such replacement will be disclosed to the customer and documented.

5.3 Age-Related Limitations

Vintage timepieces, by their nature, have components that have been subject to decades of use, storage, and environmental exposure. Customers acknowledge the following age-related realities:

  • Gaskets and seals deteriorate with age regardless of use or storage conditions
  • Lubricants break down over time and may require more frequent service
  • Metal fatigue in springs and pivots is a natural consequence of age
  • Jewels may show wear patterns affecting performance
  • Case condition affects the internal protection of the movement

SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW LIMITATIONS ON IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

9. WARRANTY TRANSFERABILITY

This Warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original purchaser from OTTUHR. The Warranty does not transfer to subsequent owners in the event the timepiece is sold, gifted, or otherwise transferred. Proof of original purchase from OTTUHR is required for all Warranty claims.

10. GOVERNING LAW AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION

This Warranty shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State in which OTTUHR is incorporated, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from or relating to this Warranty shall first be subject to good faith negotiation between the parties. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association.

11. RECOMMENDED CARE AND MAINTENANCE

To maintain the performance and longevity of your vintage or pre-owned timepiece and to avoid voiding this Warranty, we recommend the following care guidelines:

  • Avoid Water Exposure: Treat all vintage watches as non-water-resistant. Remove the watch before washing hands, swimming, showering, or any water-related activities.
  • Protect from Magnets: Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields including smartphones, tablets, speakers, magnetic clasps, and MRI machines.
  • Avoid Temperature Extremes: Do not expose the watch to extreme heat or cold, including saunas, hot tubs, or leaving the watch in a cold car.
  • Protect from Chemicals: Avoid contact with perfumes, colognes, lotions, solvents, and cleaning agents.
  • Wind Carefully: For manual-wind movements, wind gently until resistance is felt. Do not force past the stopping point.
  • Store Properly: Store the watch in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight. Use a watch box or soft pouch for protection.
  • Service Regularly: We recommend a complete service every 3-5 years to maintain optimal performance and preserve the movement.
  • Handle with Care: Vintage watches are delicate instruments. Handle with care and avoid impacts, drops, or rough activity while wearing.

12. AMENDMENTS AND MODIFICATIONS

OTTUHR reserves the right to amend, modify, or update this Warranty policy at any time. Any changes will be effective upon posting of the revised Warranty on our website. The Warranty terms in effect at the time of purchase shall apply to that transaction. We encourage customers to review this Warranty periodically for any updates.

13. SEVERABILITY

If any provision of this Warranty is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such finding shall not affect the validity or enforceability of the remaining provisions, which shall continue in full force and effect.
