Rolex 1036 Description

The Rolex 1036 is the historically vital movement that powered the first GMT-Master (ref. 6542) from 1954. The number “655” refers to a part number on the automatic bridge. Based on the chronometer-grade Cal. 1030, the 1036 added a 24-hour hand geared to the main hour hand, allowing pilots to track a second time zone against the rotating bezel. It featured a “butterfly” rotor and established the foundation for one of watchmaking’s most iconic complications.
