Rolex Chronograph 2918 Description
The Rolex Chronograph reference 2918 is an exceedingly rare and visually distinctive model from the mid-1930s. Its historical significance lies in its bold and unconventional case architecture, showcasing Rolex’s willingness to experiment with avant-garde designs during the Art Deco period. This non-Oyster reference is immediately recognizable by its three-body case featuring a prominent concave bezel and, most notably, its sharp, faceted, downturned lugs, often referred to as “spider” or “crab” lugs. This intricate and sculptural lug design makes the watch highly sought after by collectors. Produced in very small quantities, the reference 2918 was available in stainless steel as well as 18k yellow gold. The dials were typically silvered and featured a tachymeter scale. The watch was powered by a manually wound 13-ligne chronograph movement. Due to its extreme rarity and unique, striking aesthetic, the 2918 is considered a masterpiece of early Rolex chronograph design.
