Rolex Explorer 114270 Description

The Rolex Explorer ref. 114270 was produced from 2001 to 2010 as the modern successor to the legendary ref. 1016, continuing the Explorer’s legacy in a classic 36 mm case size. The watch featured a stainless steel Oyster case with a sapphire crystal, polished bezel, and a solid-link Oyster bracelet with an updated clasp system. It was powered by the Rolex Caliber 3130, a chronometer-certified automatic movement with a 48-hour power reserve, hacking seconds, and improved shock resistance thanks to the Parachrom hairspring. The case measured approximately 11.5 mm thick, with a lug-to-lug length of 44 mm and a 20 mm lug width. The dial remained faithful to the traditional Explorer layout, featuring a glossy black surface with white gold surrounds on the 3-6-9 Arabic numerals and Mercedes hands filled with Super-LumiNova. The 114270 is appreciated for retaining the vintage Explorer proportions while upgrading the movement and durability, making it a popular choice for those seeking a classic-sized Rolex with modern functionality.
