Rolex Oyster Perpetual 1008 Description

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 1008 is a vintage model primarily produced during the 1950s and 1960s. This reference is often found in 14k or 18k yellow gold, offering a more refined, precious metal alternative to its stainless steel counterparts. The case measures 34mm in diameter and features a smooth bezel, lending the watch a simple yet elegant profile well-suited to both dress and casual wear. The reference is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal and includes Rolex’s signature screw-down crown and caseback, maintaining the waterproof integrity of the Oyster line. It is powered by Rolex Caliber 1560 or 1570, both of which are automatic, chronometer-certified movements delivering strong performance and approximately 42–48 hours of power reserve. Dials were typically understated, with silver, champagne, or white tones and applied baton or dagger-style markers, depending on the specific production year. With a lug-to-lug measurement of approximately 41mm and a 19mm lug width, the 1008 wears comfortably and proportionately on most wrists. Though not as widely recognized as sportier Rolex icons, the 1008 holds appeal among collectors for its gold construction, classic proportions, and solid mechanical foundation.
