Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6585 Description
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 6585 is a rare vintage midsize automatic watch produced during the late 1950s and early 1960s. It features a 34mm stainless steel case often fitted with a fluted or smooth 18k gold bezel, offering an understated but luxurious profile. At its core is the Rolex Caliber 1030, the brand’s first fully in-house automatic movement with bi-directional winding and a power reserve of around 42 hours. The dials were classically styled, frequently silver or champagne in tone, adorned with applied baton markers and dauphine or pencil hands. An acrylic crystal, screw-down crown, and caseback ensured the expected water resistance of the Oyster line. Its lug-to-lug measurement is approximately 42mm with a lug width of 19mm, making the 6585 a comfortable fit for midsize wrists. The watch was typically delivered on a riveted Oyster bracelet or a leather strap. Today, the 6585 stands out as a desirable transitional piece that bridges the aesthetics of early post-war Rolex design and the evolution toward the modern automatic Oyster Perpetual line, offering both historical value and refined wearability.
