Rolex Chronograph 3055 Description
The Rolex Oyster Chronograph reference 3055, affectionately known by its Italian nickname “Piccolino” (very small), is an extremely rare and historically significant model produced around 1939. Its primary importance lies in its distinction as one of the smallest chronographs ever made by Rolex, with a case diameter of just 30mm. This reference is a pioneering example of the brand’s waterproof Oyster chronograph concept, featuring a stainless steel case with the signature screw-down crown and case back. The “Piccolino” was produced in very limited quantities, making it a highly sought-after piece for collectors. Dials were made in both silver and black, typically featuring a two-register layout with multi-scale tachymeter and telemeter tracks. The watch is powered by a manually wound 10.5-ligne movement based on the Valjoux 69. Its combination of an early Oyster case, diminutive size, and extreme rarity solidifies the 3055’s status as a unique and coveted piece of Rolex history.
