Rolex Chronograph 3330 Description

The Rolex Chronograph reference 3330 is a rare and highly sought-after non-Oyster model from the late 1930s and early 1940s. Its historical significance is defined by its impressively large case size for the era, which at 37mm, was unusually large and gives the watch a contemporary feel. This “pre-Daytona” chronograph features a classic three-body case with a snap-on back and an elegant, flat bezel. The reference is celebrated for its balanced and sophisticated dial aesthetics, which often included multiple scales such as tachymeter and telemeter. Variations are a key part of its appeal; it was cased in stainless steel, 18k yellow gold, or a combination of steel and gold. The most desirable examples feature stunning dials with applied Breguet numerals, found on both black gilt and silvered surfaces. The watch is powered by a manually wound 13-ligne caliber, based on the robust Valjoux 22. The combination of its large case, potential for rare and beautiful Breguet dial configurations, and overall scarcity makes the 3330 a prized possession for discerning vintage chronograph collectors.
