Rolex Chronograph 5036

Reference 5036 is an early and very rare version of the “Jean-Claude Killy” Dato-Compax, produced for a short period around 1949-1951. It is powered by the Valjoux 72C manual-wind movement, featuring a triple calendar and chronograph. It is technically distinguished by its earlier case design and dial executions. The 36mm case can be found in stainless steel, yellow gold, and rose gold, often with a snap-on case back. The 5036 is historically significant as one of the foundational references for Rolex’s most complicated wristwatch, representing the genesis of the iconic “Killy” design.
