Rolex Oysterquartz Day-Date 19028 Description

The Rolex Oysterquartz Day-Date ref. 19028 was produced from approximately 1977 to 2001 and stands out as one of the most distinct executions of the Day-Date line. Crafted in 18k yellow gold, the 19028 featured a sharply angular 36 mm case and an integrated President-style bracelet with pyramid-style center links. It housed the Rolex Caliber 5055 quartz movement, a high-precision thermocompensated mechanism with analog timekeeping, instantaneous day and date function, and COSC certification. The case was approximately 13 mm thick with a lug-to-lug measurement of 44 mm and a 19 mm lug width, integrated into the unique geometric bracelet design. This reference featured a pyramid-textured bezel that matched the bracelet’s design, reinforcing the watch’s bold, architectural appearance. Dials were often offered in champagne or black with applied Roman numerals or diamond markers, and always included the full day display at 12 o’clock. Though quartz Rolex models were controversial, the 19028 is now appreciated for its uncompromising design, technical innovation, and rarity. It holds a special place as both a product of its time and an avant-garde departure from traditional Rolex aesthetics.
