Rolex Prince Sporting 1564 Description
The Rolex Prince Sporting ref. 1564 was introduced during the 1930s as part of Rolex’s renowned Prince line, which was celebrated for its rectangular cases and distinctive Art Deco aesthetics. The 1564 reference, also known as the ‘Sporting’ Prince, featured a cushion-shaped steel case with an approximate width of 28 mm and a lug-to-lug length around 38 mm, offering a larger and more wrist-hugging profile than earlier Prince watches. This reference was powered by the Rolex Caliber 300, a manually wound movement engineered for chronometric precision, with a 42-hour power reserve and a sub-dial for small seconds placed at the bottom of the rectangular dial. The case design reflected early tool watch characteristics with its screw-down caseback, while the dial often included a two-tone silver sector layout, stylized Arabic numerals, and cathedral or feuille hands. Although not built for diving or extreme use, the 1564 was positioned as a sportier, more robust take on the traditional Rolex Prince. Today, the ref. 1564 remains an extremely rare and historically significant collector’s piece, representing Rolex’s early experimentation with form and function outside the round Oyster case lineage.
