Rolex Prince 1768 Description

The Rolex Prince ref. 1768 was introduced in the early 1930s and is one of the less common references in the iconic Prince lineup, known for its strong Art Deco character and rectangular design. The case, typically crafted in 18k gold or sterling silver, measured approximately 28 mm in width and 42 mm in length, following the traditional Prince proportions. It was powered by the Rolex Caliber 300, a hand-wound movement specifically developed for the Prince series, recognized for its accuracy and 42-hour power reserve. The ref. 1768 featured the classic dual-dial layout with a dedicated upper dial for hours and minutes and a lower, oversized sub-seconds register—ideal for precise timing needs, especially in medical contexts. The dial was often executed in two-tone finishes with Arabic numerals, sector layout, and a railway minute track, further emphasizing the Art Deco appeal. The case design was angular and symmetrical, with stepped edges and a thin profile, making it both elegant and utilitarian. Although not widely produced, the 1768 is appreciated by collectors for its early Rolex heritage, precise movement, and refined visual language that reflects the era’s design ethos.
