History & Infomation On The Brand

Girard-Perregaux, one of Switzerland’s oldest watch manufacturers, was officially established in 1856 when watchmaker Constant Girard married Marie Perregaux, merging their family names and skills. Known for its commitment to innovation and precision, Girard-Perregaux quickly rose to prominence with groundbreaking advancements in horology. One of its most celebrated achievements came in 1889 when it introduced the Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges, a masterpiece that redefined watchmaking by turning functional components into aesthetic elements. This design, featuring three arrow-shaped gold bridges across the movement, became a signature look and won a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition.

In the 20th century, Girard-Perregaux continued to innovate, notably producing one of the first high-frequency movements with its 36,000 vibrations per hour Gyromatic in the 1960s. This level of precision set new standards in chronometry, and Girard-Perregaux became one of the few brands to maintain its in-house movement production, underscoring its independence and expertise. The brand also played a significant role in the development of quartz technology, introducing the first Swiss quartz watch in 1971, which set the frequency standard of 32,768 Hz still used in quartz watches today.

Today, Girard-Perregaux is known for merging technical prowess with aesthetic elegance, exemplified by collections like the Laureato, a sporty yet refined model, and the continued production of the Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges. The brandโ€™s commitment to craftsmanship, precision, and innovation has secured its place as a revered name in Swiss watchmaking, appreciated by collectors and connoisseurs alike.
