Movado, founded in 1881 by Achilles Ditesheim in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, started as a small workshop dedicated to producing quality Swiss timepieces. In 1905, the company rebranded as “Movado,” meaning “always in motion” in Esperanto, reflecting a forward-thinking philosophy that would guide the brand for decades. Known for its clean, modern designs and emphasis on innovation, Movado Watches quickly gained a reputation for minimalist elegance and technical excellence.

The brand’s most iconic creation, the Museum Watch, was designed in 1947 by artist Nathan George Horwitt. Featuring a minimalist dial with a single dot at 12 o’clock representing the sun at its zenith, the Museum Watch was the first wristwatch to be added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This timeless design remains central to Movadoโ€™s identity and continues to influence its collections, celebrated as a masterpiece of modern design that emphasizes simplicity and function.
