Rolex Chronograph 2920 Description
The Rolex Chronograph reference 2920 is an exceptionally rare and historically significant model from the mid-1930s. As a “non-Oyster” chronograph, its importance stems from its highly unusual and ornate case design, representing Rolex’s creative, experimental phase before its designs became more standardized. The reference is distinguished by its three-body case, prominent “olive” or “oval” shaped chronograph pushers, and unique hinged or hooded lugs that give the watch a strong Art Deco presence. Produced in extremely small numbers, the 2920 is a grail for many advanced collectors. It was manufactured in both stainless steel and 18k yellow gold. The dials were typically silvered with black lacquer print and featured both tachymeter and telemeter scales. At its heart is a manually wound 13-ligne chronograph movement. The combination of its extreme rarity and distinctive, elaborate case architecture makes the reference 2920 one of the most coveted and enigmatic of all early Rolex chronographs.
