Rolex Chronograph 3462 Description

The Rolex Chronograph reference 3462, produced in the early 1940s, is a rare and distinguished non-Oyster model from the brand’s pre-Daytona era. Its historical significance lies in its elegant and complex case construction, which sets it apart from other chronographs of the period. The watch is notable for its three-body case featuring a unique “rolled” or “hooded” bezel design that integrates smoothly into the “teardrop” lugs, creating a very fluid and sophisticated look. This reference was produced in limited numbers and represents a high point in Rolex’s classical design language. Variations are found in case material, with examples in both stainless steel and 18k yellow gold. The dials were typically silvered and featured outer minute/seconds tracks, with some examples including tachymeter and telemeter scales. Powering the watch is the reliable, manually wound 13-ligne caliber, based on the Valjoux 23. The combination of its rarity and distinctive, elegant case design makes the 3462 a highly sought-after collector’s piece.
