The Reference 4048 is a rare and early triple calendar chronograph from the 1940s, serving as a direct predecessor to the iconic “Jean-Claude Killy” models. It is powered by the Valjoux 72C manual-wind movement, a ‘grand complication’ caliber that combines a three-register chronograph with a triple calendar (day, date pointer, month). The technical specification is a 35-36mm case, often in gold, with a non-Oyster snap-on back. Its historical significance is immense, as it represents one of the earliest platforms for Rolex’s most complex wristwatch movement.
