Rolex Chronograph 4768

Reference 4768 is a rare and short-lived variant of the early Dato-Compax “Jean-Claude Killy” chronograph, produced around 1947. Powered by the Valjoux 72C movement, its primary technical distinction lies in its case design. While sharing the 36mm diameter, the 4768 features unique, sculpted “teardrop” lugs, lending it a more elegant and ornate appearance than the more common 4767. It was typically produced in 14k or 18k gold. The significance of the 4768 is its status as an early, highly stylized case variant, demonstrating Rolex’s experimentation with more decorative forms even on its most complicated watches.
