Rolex Milgauss 6541 Description

Reference 6541 is the inaugural Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss, a highly specialized anti-magnetic watch produced from approximately 1956 to 1960. Its primary technical feature, and the source of its name, is its resistance to magnetic fields up to 1,000 gauss. This is achieved through a soft iron Faraday cage constructed around the movement. The movement itself, Caliber 1066M, was a modified automatic chronometer with key components crafted from anti-magnetic alloys. The 38mm stainless steel Oyster case is visually defined by two unique features: a bi-directional rotating bezel with a black insert and red triangular marker, and a distinctive ‘lightning bolt’ seconds hand. The dial often featured a textured ‘honeycomb’ pattern, and both the dial and hands were lumed with radium.
