Rolex Oyster 4461 Description

The Rolex Oyster ref. 4461 is a rare and distinctive model from the early 1940s, notable for being one of the very few vintage Oyster models equipped with a triple calendar and moonphase complication. This reference was produced in extremely limited numbers and typically housed in a 32.5mm stainless steel or gold case, which retained the screw-down crown and caseback for water resistance. It was powered by a modified version of the Rolex Caliber 10 1/2 Hunter, adapted to include full calendar functionality along with a moonphase indicator—an uncommon configuration for the brand. The dial featured a pointer date scale around the perimeter, apertures for the day and month below the 12 o’clock position, and a moonphase display at 6 o’clock. With a lug-to-lug measurement of approximately 40mm and a lug width of 17mm, the 4461 wears slightly larger than its case diameter suggests, aided by its complicated dial layout. Collectors highly prize this reference for its mechanical sophistication, extreme rarity, and unique position in Rolex’s otherwise utilitarian historical catalog. It remains one of the most sought-after vintage Rolex watches for connoisseurs focused on complications and early calendar models.
