Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6011 Description
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 6011 is a historically significant model from the early 1950s that represents a key transition for the brand. It is one of the early “Ovettone” (Italian for “large egg”) or “Big Bubble Back” references, which saw the case size increase to a more substantial 36mm. This marked a shift away from the smaller 32-34mm cases of the 1940s. The 6011 is also notable for its use of the “Super-Oyster” crown, a short-lived, non-screwing, spring-loaded waterproof crown that Rolex experimented with. The watch’s design is defined by its elegant “bombé” lugs that curve gracefully from the case. It was produced in 18k yellow or pink gold, and in two-tone “Rolesor” versions. The combination of its larger case size, elegant lugs, and the unique Super-Oyster crown makes the 6011 a fascinating and collectible piece from a pivotal moment in Rolex’s history.
