Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6085 Description
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 6085 is a notable early-1950s model, often associated with elegant design and mid-century innovation in Rolex’s self-winding offerings. Housed in a 34mm case crafted in stainless steel or gold, it typically features a smooth or occasionally fluted bezel, paired with a domed acrylic crystal and screw-down caseback for waterproof integrity. It is powered by the Rolex Caliber 645, a bi-directional automatic movement delivering approximately 42 hours of power reserve. Dials were generally clean and conservative, with silver, cream, or champagne backgrounds, applied indices or numerals, and dauphine hands often accompanied by radium lume. The lug-to-lug length is approximately 42mm, and the lug width measures 19mm, giving the 6085 a versatile and refined presence on the wrist. Some notable versions of the 6085 featured cloisonné enamel dials, produced in very limited quantities and highly prized among collectors. This reference reflects Rolex’s transitional phase between earlier Bubbleback models and more modern Oyster Perpetuals, making it a significant piece in the lineage of Rolex’s waterproof, automatic wristwatches.
