Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6504 Description
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 6504 is a vintage automatic timepiece produced during the mid-to-late 1950s, reflecting Rolex’s continued evolution of its classic Oyster case and self-winding technology. The 6504 was typically crafted in stainless steel with a 34mm case diameter, paired with either a smooth or engine-turned bezel. Its domed acrylic crystal, screw-down crown, and caseback were standard Oyster features, ensuring water resistance and durability. The movement inside was the Rolex Caliber 1030, one of the manufacturer’s earliest in-house automatic calibers, offering bi-directional winding and a 42-hour power reserve. Dial configurations were elegant and utilitarian, usually featuring silver-toned finishes, baton or dagger indices, dauphine hands, and minimal text. The watch measured approximately 42mm lug-to-lug with a 19mm lug width, giving it a proportionate and comfortable presence on the wrist. Though less common than some of its contemporaries, the ref. 6504 is sought after for its robust mechanics and clean vintage styling. It stands as an appealing choice for collectors who appreciate understated Rolex design and mid-century horological quality.
