Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6565 Description

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 6565 is a mid-century automatic model introduced in the mid-1950s, exemplifying the brand’s classic design language and engineering progress during that era. Housed in a 34mm stainless steel case, the 6565 was often configured with either a smooth or fluted bezel, showcasing a versatile and dressy appearance. Powering the watch is the Rolex Caliber 1030, a significant movement in Rolex’s history as their first in-house bi-directional automatic caliber, offering approximately 42 hours of power reserve and strong reliability. The dials varied between silver, champagne, and off-white finishes, with baton or arrowhead markers and dauphine hands beneath a domed acrylic crystal. A screw-down crown and solid caseback helped ensure water resistance in line with the Oyster standard. Its lug-to-lug measurement of approximately 42mm and 19mm lug width gave the 6565 well-balanced proportions suitable for a wide range of wrist sizes. Originally offered on riveted Oyster bracelets or leather straps, the 6565 is now recognized as a desirable collectible due to its clean aesthetics, vintage charm, and use of the historically important Caliber 1030. It remains a foundational piece in the lineage of Rolex’s post-war Oyster Perpetual models.
