Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6749 Description

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 6749 was produced during the early 1960s as a midsize stainless steel model in the expanding Oyster Perpetual lineup. With a 31 mm case diameter, it was designed to strike a balance between sporty durability and dress-watch elegance. This reference featured a stainless steel Oyster case often matched with a smooth or engine-turned bezel and an Oyster bracelet, giving it a clean and utilitarian aesthetic. It housed the Rolex Caliber 1130, a reliable and durable automatic movement with a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The watch measured around 11.5 mm thick, had a lug-to-lug distance of 37.5 mm, and a lug width of 16 mm. Dial options included traditional silver, black, and white tones, usually with luminous dauphine or baton hands and matching hour markers, featuring either radium or early tritium lume. With water resistance rated at 100 meters and a screw-down crown and caseback, the 6749 offered functional robustness in a modest-sized package. It remains a lesser-known yet collectible reference for enthusiasts of early Oyster Perpetual designs and mid-century Rolex engineering.
