Overview

The Zodiac Aerospace GMT is one of the great under-the-radar tool watches of the 1960s, and it’s frankly wild that it doesn’t get more attention. While Rolex was charging a premium for GMT functionality with the 1675, Zodiac was offering essentially the same complication in a watch that was arguably tougher, more water-resistant, and considerably more affordable. Zodiac’s advertising slogan at the time said it all: “Twice as much time for your money.” The Aerospace GMT arrived in 1962 as a natural evolution of the brand’s already proven Sea Wolf dive watch platform, taking that robust, waterproof case architecture and adding a 24-hour hand with a bidirectional rotating bezel to give pilots, travelers, and military personnel the ability to track a second time zone at a glance. For a brand founded in 1882 by Ariste Calame in Le Locle, one of the spiritual heartlands of Swiss watchmaking, the Aerospace represented Zodiac at its most ambitious, competing head-to-head with the biggest names in the industry and delivering a product that more than held its own.

The Ref. 752-934 represents the iteration of the Aerospace GMT that introduced new bezel insert options, and it’s powered by Zodiac’s in-house Caliber 75, a 17-jewel automatic movement beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a 40-hour power reserve. The Cal. 75 is based on the earlier 70-72 platform and adds the dedicated 24-hour hand complication that makes the GMT function possible. The 24-hour hand is mechanically geared to the hour hand and cannot be set independently, meaning the second time zone is tracked by rotating the bezel to the appropriate offset. It’s an elegantly simple solution that works beautifully in practice. The case measures approximately 35mm without the crown, with a thickness of just under 11mm, and is rated to an impressive 20 ATM of water resistance, making this not just a GMT watch but a genuine diver’s instrument capable of serious underwater work.

This particular example is a fantastic all-original package, and that’s what makes it so compelling. The glossy black dial is in strong condition, with the printed Zodiac crosshair logo, the ornate “Aerospace GMT” script, and the cursive “Automatic” designation above six o’clock all clearly legible. The “T SWISS MADE T” at the base confirms the tritium luminous material, which has aged naturally in the applied square hour markers and the baton handset. The red 24-hour GMT hand remains vivid and punchy against the dark dial, providing that essential pop of color that makes the Aerospace GMT so visually distinctive. The date window at three o’clock is clean, and the overall dial presents as honest and unrestored, with just enough character to confirm decades of real-world use.

The chrome bidirectional bezel is a highlight. The hour markers and minute indices are all clearly defined, and the lume-filled triangle at 12 o’clock has aged to a warm, golden tone that contrasts beautifully with the matte silver of the bezel surface. The knurled edge provides excellent grip, and the bezel itself rotates with satisfying action. The stainless steel case shows honest wear consistent with a watch that was used as the tool it was designed to be, while the original signed Zodiac crown sits properly on the right side. The caseback carries the “ZODIAC AEROSPACE” designation along with “SS/MS,” “AUTOMATIC,” “WATERPROOF 20 ATM,” and the Zodiac crosshair logo. Inside, the caseback is stamped with “Zodiac Ltd, Le Locle, Swiss” and “ACIER INOXYDABLE” along with the 752-934 reference number. The Cal. 75 presents with its Zodiac-signed rotor and decorated bridges, looking exactly as it should.

What truly elevates this example is the original bracelet. Finding an Aerospace GMT on its period-correct JB Champion beads-of-rice style bracelet is a real treat for collectors who appreciate the full package. The bracelet drapes beautifully and gives the watch a completely different character than it would have on a leather strap, leaning into the tool-watch aesthetic and making the whole ensemble feel cohesive and purposeful.

For the collector who loves the idea of a vintage GMT watch but doesn’t want to pay Rolex prices, or for the enthusiast who simply appreciates a great tool watch from a brand with serious horological credentials, the Zodiac Aerospace GMT is one of the most compelling propositions in the vintage market. It’s a watch with genuine history, real capability, and a look that turns heads every time. This all-original example, complete with its factory bracelet, is the kind of find that makes collecting fun.
