Overview

Chronometer certification was not a Constellation exclusive. The Omega Seamaster 168.024 shares its caliber 564 with contemporary Constellations, a reminder that Omega’s model names did not draw hard borders around its movements. We like that little crossing of family lines.

Omega lists the 168.024 in its international collection from 1969 to 1972. The Seamaster name already covered both everyday watches and purpose-built divers; this reference belongs to the former. Its caseback carries both 166010 SP and 168024 stamps, a small piece of that sprawling family history hidden from view. Above the hands, the chronometer designation gives this version its more specific identity.

The 564 is a 24-jewel automatic with a full winding rotor and a quickset date. That last detail is especially useful when a watch comes back into rotation: the date can be advanced without cycling the hands through successive midnights. It is a practical reason to enjoy the movement, quite apart from its place in Omega’s chronometer line-up.

Our example measures 35mm across and 43mm from lug to lug, with a silver dial, dauphine hands and a framed date at three. It is fitted with an Omega-signed stainless steel beads-of-rice bracelet and folding clasp. The closely spaced, rounded links are a good match for the watch’s compact proportions, and we would keep that pairing intact.

This is the part of vintage Omega we enjoy: following a familiar name a little further and finding a connection that was there all along. A Seamaster on the wrist, with another chapter of Omega’s chronometer story inside.
